Common Sense Food

Designed by Martin Lai, Yannik Kaiser & Ebrar Eke

2020

With the original buildings arrangement kept roughly the same our main ambition lay in coming up with a self-organizing process that grows and defines the complexity and the interconnectedness of structures within the building’s mass, absorbing and resolving the continuous forces of gravity, climatic and cultural pressures brought on by the Hammam typology. On a larger scale this would result in the emergence of local patterns with capacities beneficial for our project globally. In regards to Sinan’s Hammam it lead to the dissolution of the hierarchical arrangement of solids and the building elements themselves and replaced the classical ordering of the components with a twofold continuous growth.
